For 2003–2004, a total stipend of $13,000, which includes an out-of state tuition waiver and money for summer work, will be awarded.

The S. George Ellsworth Fellow must enroll in USU’s master’s program in history. Duties at the Western Historical Quarterly (WHQ) include 20 hours a week, September–June, helping to select, prepare, and copy-edit manuscripts. The fellowship may be retained for a second year, depending upon satisfactory progress toward the master’s degree and acceptable completion of editorial assignments. During the summer of 2003, the editorial fellow works 20 hours a week at WHQ.

Applicants should send a letter of interest directly to the editor of the WHQ. The full application, including three letters of recommendation to the USU graduate school, will suffice to complete the needed materials. All documents should be postmarked no later than 1 February 2003. Applicants will be notified in early April.
