Halfbreed is a well crafted and rich biography of one of the most well known figures in the colorful, controversial past of the American West. David F. Halaas and Andrew E. Masich reconstruct the often turbulent life of George Bent, demonstrating that his Anglo-Cheyenne lineage defined his life, and that despite the influence he enjoyed because of it, lasting personal successes or material gains were not guaranteed. Throughout the work, Bent is always caught in the middle, torn between competing familial and racial loyalties while struggling to maintain some sense of humanity. |
