In Termination's Legacy, R. Warren Metcalf has done a superb job of explaining the complex interactions between Mormon Utah, the Utes, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Congress. This book is a scholarly and detailed account of the termination of the Mixed-Blood Utes. Metcalf illustrates how the termination policy was propelled by two overarching ideologies: Mormonism and conservative Republicanism. He gives us a blow by blow description of how these ideologies influenced the key individuals responsible for creating and enacting this disaster. |
