In the last several decades queer studies has moved in the direction of incorporating post-modernism, cultural studies, or social development theories. Since the field of inquiry is largely centered on structural forces, oppression, resistance, and the engendering of identities such a shift is to be expected, even heralded by some scholars. Hence, readers might be surprised to find Gay Seattle a departure from that trend. With a heavy emphasis on telling a cohesive story and skillful use of sources, this monograph is a good reminder of the essence of historical scholarship. |
