It is a joy to see this book in print. Everyone with an interest in the Pacific Northwest, or in western women, between 1871 and 1887, will find it filled with nuggets of golden information about events and people of those years. |

An anthology culled, with much labor, from the packed microfilm columns of The New Northwest (a weekly newspaper published by the prominent Oregon suffragist and indomitable journalist), Abigail Scott Duniway, the book provides a vivid portrait of Duniway herself and the world in which she lived. Most selections come from the long narratives that she published every week, describing her travels, her lectures, the towns and people she visited, the intimate details of steamboat or railroad or stagecoach or mudwagon transportation that she endured--and her strong opinions on every possible subject. |
