POLISH AMERICAN ENCYCLOPEDIA PROJECT

The Polish American Historical Association is pleased to announced the beginning of a major project to publish an encyclopedia of Polish-American history and culture. "Every major ethnic group has published an encyclopedia detailing its experiences and contributions to American society," explained Dr. James S. Pula, editor of the forthcoming publication. "Only Polish-Americans remain without a serious historical encyclopedia. It is time to preserve our heritage for our children and grandchildren." As planned, the "Encyclopedia of Polish American history and Culture" will contain both large interpretive essays on important general topics – such as community development, organizational life, religious life, holiday celebrations and participation in the labor movement – along with individual biographical entries on important Polish Americans and entries on individual organizations, events, customs and other topics of interest. The completed encyclopedia will be published by McFarland Publishers, a respected commercial printer of historical works. |

To be successful, PAHA needs your assistance and support for this important project to pass along Polish American heritage to our children and grandchildren, as well as the general public. You can support these efforts in two ways –
- We are in the process of compiling a list of potential entries – biographies of Polish Americans who have made important contributions to American history and culture, or to the development of the Polish ethnic community in America, and topical entries such as major organizations, events or Polish American cultural aspects (wigilia, oberek, etc.). You can help by sending your suggestions for potential entries to the editor at jpula@pnc.edu. Also, if you are interested in authoring entries, please let us know your field of expertise and if there are any specific entries or categories of entries you would be interested in authoring.
- As you can imagine, a project of this scope will be very expensive to complete. To bring it to fruition, we need your support. Please consider a tax deductible donation to the "PAHA Encyclopedia Project" to help preserve our heritage. All donations are welcome, and will be acknowledged in the published encyclopedia.
