Jasper G. and Minnie Stevens Literary Prize  
The Oregon Historical Society is accepting submissions for the Stevens Prize competition. The prize, with a cash award of $3,000 and publication of the manuscript by the Oregon Historical Society Press, recognizes the best original fiction or nonfiction literary treatment of Oregon history. Submission deadline is October 1, 2005.

2006 Sterling Fellowships in Pacific Northwest History  
The Oregon Historical Society is accepting applications for Donald J. Sterling, Jr., Research Fellowships. A $2,500 Senior Fellowship and a $2,000 Graduate Research Fellowship are available. OHS Research Library Recent accessions  
Mills Family collection, ca. 1850–1940 (bulk ca. 1920–1940). 1.5 cu. ft. Additions to the collection of the family of John Ainsworth Mills, including photographs and biographical information for members of the Heitshu family of Portland; expansion of Portland's Benson Hotel; and renovation of the Cloud Cap Inn. Also includes photographs of model steamboats constructed by Portland banker John Churchill Ainsworth.  
      Paul Pitzer photographs, ca. 1950–1970. 0.05 cu. ft. Includes slides relating to recent Portland history, including Rose Festival parades, construction of buildings at the Oregon Centennial Fair grounds, damage from the Columbus Day storm of 1962, and other images.  
      Portland Federation of Teachers records, ca. 1956–2000 (bulk 1980–2000). 19 cu. ft. Additions to records of the union, including minutes of meetings, correspondence, subject files, and files on contract negotiations.  
      Winch family collection, ca. 1850–1990. ca. 10 cu. ft. Papers of the family of Simeon Reed Winch and his father, Martin Winch, prominent businessmen in Portland. The Winches were related to the family of Reed College benefactor Simeon G. Reed and to Hudson's Bay Company factor Dr. John McLoughlin. The collection includes portraits of members of the Winch, Reed, and Wygant families of Portland; two daguerreotypes of Dr. John McLoughlin; artifacts once belonging to McLoughlin and his colleague Francis Ermatinger; letterpress copybooks of Martin Winch, ca. 1880–1910; and research materials on the Hudson's Bay Company.
