| Oregon's Built Environment Posted to Oregon History Project Site |
| The award-winning Oregon History Project announces a new intallment on its Web site, Wooden Beams and Railroad Ties: The History of Oregon's Built Environment, by Richard Engeman (www.ohs.org/education/oregonhistory/narratives/histories.cfm). Digitized primary sources and a historical narrative relate the history of Oregon as expressed through its built environment, from Chinook cedar lodges and missionary churches, through covered bridges and fish canneries, to suburban houses, vacation resorts, and glass office towers. Lesson plans for elementary, middle, and high school teachers are also available (www.ohs.org/education/oregonhistory/learning_center/index.cfm). |
Wooden Beams and Railroad Ties is a cooperative effort by the Oregon Heritage Commission, Oregon Historical Society, and Oregon State Historic Preservation Office. Beginning in late May, representatives from each organization will visit locations throughout Oregon to introduce the site to teachers and museum enthusiasts. For a detailed schedule, see www.ohs.org/education/Educators-Workshops-Built-Environment.cfm. The site and workshops would not have been possible without the generous support of the Oregon Cultural Trust fund. |
