Oregon Archives Week
| Officially proclaimed by Governor Ted Kulongoski, Oregon Archives Week (October 9–16) will be a celebration emphasizing the importance of historical documents and their preservation. The OHS Research Library, an archive for millions of historical documents, photographic images, books, maps, film, and more, will sponsor activities throughout the week. Festival Latinoamericano de Arte y Culturas / Festival of Latin American Arts and Cultures
| The Oregon Historical Society Folklife Program, the Latin American Arts & Cultures Council of Oregon, and Portland State University's Latino/Chicano Studies Program present Festival Latinoamericano de Arte y Culturas/Festival of Latin American Arts & Cultures on October 23, 2004, from noon to 5pm and 8 to 10pm in the PSU Ballroom. Daytime activities will include stage performances, sales of artworks by Latin American artists, demonstrations of traditional arts, children's activities and more. A special evening performance, Soy De Donde Soy (I Am From Where I Am), will include dance, music, poetry, images and movement to illustrate the history and beauty of the Latin American cultures in Oregon. This event is partially funded by the Oregon Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts. |

Joaquin Miller Conference and Celebration in Ashland
| Registration is now open for the first-ever conference on the life, literature, and legend of the Poet of the Sierras, Joaquin Miller. Miller was a gold miner, Pony Express rider, gunfighter, horse thief, journalist, writer, rogue, and hero. His first book, Song of the Sierras, was published in 1871. Attracting participants from throughout the Northwest, the conference will be held October 8–9, 2004, at Southern Oregon University in Ashland.
