Knupfer has written an innovative work depicting middle-class black women's intellectual and political contributions to the Chicago Black Renaissance. She reconstructs the interdependent relationships among women professionals, artists, and the community's cultural organizations. These women raised funds for cultural institutions, founded community establishments to display artists' works, and educated community members about the political significance of that art. |
