Book Note
| The State of Industrial Relations: The State of the States, 2005, Evatt Foundation, Sydney 2005. pp. 108. $24.95 paper.
|
| This publication from the Evatt Foundation provides a comprehensive overview of the performance of state governments in the key areas of social policy, the environment, and economic policy. The information is presented in 'league table' format but there is also a sensible and carefully worded discussion of each section and the results. This is a valuable research tool especially since many media outlets are strongly state-centred and do not always provide comprehensive coverage of what is happening in the other states. |

This edition also includes five essays by industrial relations academics on various aspects of the then newly-introduced Commonwealth WorkChoices legislation. The essays are mostly critical of the legislation especially when considering their effects on specific groups of workers such as women, and children. |
