| Essay collections are notably (perhaps notoriously) eclectic, gathering together as they do the writings of numerous academics, who, as a group, are notably (and notoriously) eclectic. An essay collection can therefore seem like an inchoate potpourri of different styles, methodologies, and arguments. Lincoln Revisited at least enjoys the advantage of focusing on one man, and it draws together some of the best and brightest Abraham Lincoln scholars around. |
