| The field of southern Jewish history has flourished in recent years, as evidenced by the publication of two essay collections in 2006 alone. The anthology Dixie Diaspora, edited by Mark K. Bauman, culls articles from the past two decades of scholarship, while Jewish Roots in Southern Soil bills itself as a "new history" of original essays, many adapted by their authors from books and articles published over the past few years. Both books contain essays that not only illuminate the experience of southern Jewry, but also address vital issues within the fields of American Jewish history and the history of the American South. |
