|
| This is the first book-length study from the naval perspective of the U.S. Navy's Africa Squadron from 1842 to the Civil War. Donald L. Canney is a recognized scholar of the early U.S. Navy, especially during the Civil War era. His study is based largely on primary sources, such as letters to and from commanders and ships' logs from the naval records of the National Archives and the Naval Historical Center; accounts by participants; and materials in various university libraries and historical societies. |
