The Rise of Evangelicalism: The Age of Edwards, Whitefield, and the Wesleys. By Mark A. Noll. (Downers Grove: InterVarsity, 2004. 330 pp. $23.00, ISBN 0-8308-2581-9.)

Mark A. Noll, the author of America's God: From Jonathan Edwards to Abraham Lincoln (2002) and The Scandal of the Evangelical Mind (1994), has produced yet another splendid study of Protestant evangelicalism. His latest book, the first of a projected five-volume series on the history of evangelicalism by different authors, traces the eighteenth-century origins of this religious movement in Britain, America, and Europe.
