| Telling of the horrors of enslavement and the immorality of Jim Crow segregation has often resulted in underrepresenting the continuity and intensity of African American protest. Although modern historians have taken a decided turn toward examining the roles African Americans played in the struggle for freedom and equality, scholarly work still often underplays the extent of black resistance. Time Longer Than Rope is a significant effort to "acknowledge the depth of African Americans' activist initiative" (p. 1). |
