Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:

I would like to suggest that Sterling Stuckey's review of Patrick Rael's Black Identity and Black Protest in the Antebellum North (JAH, June 2003) is less than complete and well balanced in its representation of this important book. It would be preferable, in my opinion, were readers to consult reviews appearing in other journals, or best of all, to read the book and judge for themselves.

James Brewer Stewart
Macalester College
Saint Paul, Minnesota

Editorial note: Sterling Stuckey considers a reply to Professor Stewart's letter unnecessary.
