| This documentary on one of the twentieth century's most important American writers is nearly as much about Ralph Ellison's creations as about his life. Since his was very much a writer's life, that is, a life devoted to works of literature and commentaries on his own and other people's writings, it is not surprising that a number of scenes from his 1952 novel Invisible Man are dramatized for the film and that much of the footage shows Ellison working. |
