In Between Church and State, James W. Fraser accomplishes two things. He presents a succinct history of the controversies that have swirled about the role of religion in American public schools, and he offers his views about how to end, or at least moderate, those controversies. His argument maintains that most efforts to place religion in public school classrooms have been tainted by a blinkered Protestantism hostile to American pluralism. Horace Mann balances Fraser's scales no better than Pat Robertson does. |
