Movie Review
Step by Step: Building the Feminist Movement, 19411977. Prod. by Joyce Follet, 1998. 56 mins. (Women Make Movies, 462 Broadway, Suite 500F, New York, NY 10013)

As its title suggests, Step by Step chronicles the steady rise of second-wave feminism from its World War II roots to its high-water mark in 1977 at the Houston Conference when, for an all-too-brief moment, the movement's ambitious agenda and the nation's appeared to merge. The producer, Joyce Follet, wisely chose two of the most prominent historians of womenLinda Kerber and Gerda Lerneras consultants to the film project, and the results are what one might expect. A quality production, the film (at a running time of 56:46) is an excellent resource for classroom instruction. |
