Oral History
Introduction
Michael Gordon and Lu Ann Jones
|
We begin with hearty thanks to the many readers
who responded to our request, made in last year's issue and on h-oralhist,
for essays about using oral history in United States history courses.
Although we received more proposals than we could accept, we were pleased
to learn of the many courses that include oral history components. We
include four examples in this issue (following the first two essays
in the section) and plan to publish more next year. We think these four
demonstrate that if instructors offer clear instructions about how to
conduct and analyze interviews, oral history projects can add new dimensions
to broad United States survey courses, as well as to more specialized
courses. |
