| Anna Agnew, a former resident of the Indiana Hospital for the Insane, published an account of her experiences in 1886 under the title From Under the Cloud. However popular during its day, the book faded into obscurity until its recent rediscovery by a retired Indianapolis psychiatrist, Lucy Jane King. Using Agnew's memoir as an armature, King sculpts an historical tale, molding biography, institutional analysis, and policy critique into a lively whole. |
