Special Section The Teaching American History Program
Editor's Note
|
THE EDITORIAL BOARD of The History Teacher is pleased to publish the following articles on the Teaching American History (TAH) grant program, funded by the United States Department of Education. We invited several TAH grantees to address their experiences during the first year (2001/02) of the grant program. What follows is a set of essays that clearly demonstrate both the challenges and the rewards of designing and implementing effective, collaborative-based professional development programs for K-12 teachers of American history. Additionally, these articles illustrate the wide variety of professional development programs funded by the TAH grants. In his introduction to these articles, Dr. Alex Stein provides an overview of the TAH program that will be of interest to local educational agencies (LEAs), content providers (institutions of higher education, museums, professional organizations), and individual scholars who may be potential applicants for TAH funding. We invite your comment on these articles. |
