SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
The History Teacher and the History Cooperative Go On-Line Together
Beginning with Volume 33, Number 1 (Nov. 1999), this journal is published on-line through the consortium called the History Cooperative. The Cooperative was established by the American Historical Association, the Organization of American Historians, the University of Illinois Press, and the National Academy Press on March 30, 2000. Its web site http://www.historycooperative.org offers the full text of current issues of the American Historical Review, the Journal of American History, and an expanding number of other history journals--the first added being The History Teacher. (The National Academy Press is the publisher of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council.)
During the first year when a journal is on-line, anyone who wishes can read it on the web site. After that time (March 1, 2001 for the AHR and JAH; January 1, 2002 for THT) only members of the organizations sponsoring the journals will have free access to the electronic version. That includes, of course, anyone whose institution subscribes to the print versions of the journal. Individual subscribers to The History Teacher will be given a password by which to read the journal's electronic version automatically. Nevertheless, anyone will be able to read and download the journals on the web site for a fee: two hours on-line for $5 if he/she subscribes to a journal in the Cooperative, or $10 if he/she does not.
The History Teacher will have an on-line discussion group for one article (or group of related articles) in each issue within the web site of the History Cooperative. Professor Daniel Ringrose of Minot State University, North Dakota, will be Moderator of the discussion group. This practice begins in this issue with discussion of the articles concerning teaching with on-line, multi-media techniques by Daniel M. Ringrose and Gregory S. Brown of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
We therefore cordially invite you to visit our journal at http://www.historycooperative.org.
