In January 2006, the Australian and New Zealand Society of the History of Medicine entered an agreement with the History Cooperative, which will make Health and History available on the World Wide Web. The URL of the History Cooperative is http://www.historycooperative.org/.

The History Cooperative makes the contents of a number of prominent historical journals available on-line. Among these journals are the American Historical Review, the Journal of American History, the Journal of Social History, the Journal of World History, and Labour History, which is also based in Australia. The History Cooperative welcomed Health and History as the first journal among its membership that addresses issues in the history of medicine.

The advantage of this arrangement with the History Cooperative is that Health and History will be freely available to anyone who surfs the web. Unlike most other academic journals, it is not necessary to have a connection to a university or a library. Because the contents will be available to anyone, Health and History has become one of the most widely available and accessible journals in the history of medicine in the world.

I trust that this new initiative will increase the world-wide interest in the history of medicine in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific region.
