| About Chinese organized in networks to move from two coastal areas of southern Fujian Province in China to Manila, this book by Andrew R. Wilson contributes greatly to the study of the Chinese sojourner communities in Southeast Asia, a topic on which there is already a significant literature. It also has a good deal to say about Philippines history and Philippines-China relations. It is a beautifully written book, richly documented with archival material produced by the community itself, the Chinese government, and the local authorities, as well as numerous sources in Chinese, English, and other languages. |
