| Robert Kelley Schneiders's book is an environmental polemic disguised as a bioregional history of the Upper Missouri ecosystem from pre-European contact up to the present. Schneiders passionately believes that the Upper Missouri should be restored to its pre-contact ecological state through the removal of several of its dams. His call to action is clear: free the river or it will have its revenge. That heartfelt conviction fuels this work with admirable energy. However, the book is weakened by problems of structure, style, and evidence. |
