Hill's work is the first in a new series of biographies by SDSHS Press. However, it serves as more of a biography of the creation of Wilder's books, than of Wilder herself. The first nine chapters compare the text of Wilder's published work with the three known versions of Wilder's unpublished autobiography, known as "Pioneer Girl." As it appears unlikely that this autobiography will be published anytime soon, this might be the most valuable portion of the book for casual Wilder researchers. This analysis is also useful because it helps answer the question, "How accurate are Wilder's books?" |
