Still the Wild River Runs: Congress, the Sierra Club, and the Fight to Save Grand Canyon. By Byron E. Pearson. (Tucson: University of Arizona Press, 2002. xxii + 246 pp. Illustrations, maps, notes, bibliography, index. $45.00.)

      Byron E. Pearson's study details one of the most significant environmental controversies of the twentieth century: the Bureau of Reclamation's attempt to build two dams within the Grand Canyon. Still the Wild River Runs examines the many attempts to bring Colorado River water to central Arizona. In retelling the story, Pearson's study challenges orthodox interpretations of this episode. . . .
