     This latest addition to the University of Oklahoma Press Western Biography Series represents the best of its kind: a compelling subject, excellent research, and accessible writing. Darlis Miller's well-honed skills as scholar and biographer bring to life this story of western writer and illustrator Mary Hallock Foote. Perhaps best known as the inspiration for Wallace Stegner's novel, Angle of Repose (Garden City, NY, 1971), Foote's experiences, as presented by Miller, offer a full complement of drama, success, failure, hard work, hope, and heartbreak. . . .
