Remittance men, investors, and Sir William Drummond Stewart come first to mind when we consider Scots in the West. Ferenc Szasz has chosen to look further and more deeply than these obvious examples. His thoughtful and well-researched book interweaves two strands. One is the story of individual and group experiences; the other deals with the parallels in culture and concern between Scots and various North American groups. |
