The Boundaries between Us examines the dynamic and complex interactions between Native Peoples and colonizers from several European nations in the Northwest Territory. During the period from 1750 to 1850, many cultural interactions were based on power relationships that ranged from relative equality (French traders) to clear domination (the ever-advancing American settlers). Moreover, this time period provides focal points for analyzing interactions between Natives and newcomers during several crises that redefined cultural relationships and reshaped the political landscape of the Northwest Territory. |
