Book Review
| Hotel: An American History. By A. K. Sandoval- Strausz. (New Haven: Yale University Press, 2007. 375 pp. $37.50, ISBN 9780-300-10616-9.)
|
| A. K. Sandoval-Strausz's thoughtfully conceived, illuminating, and richly illustrated book is the first general work to treat the phenomenon of the American hotel in a broad historical context. Previously, attention to the hotel building type, its various expressions in the United States, and its impact on our national life had been limited to articles and occasional references in books. The author has successfully addressed that deficiency in our national historical literature in this exhaustively researched scholarly undertaking. |
