| Attempting a history of a people who now number well over a quarter million and manage a territory of twenty-five thousand square miles seems daunting. Few scholars aside from Peter Iverson could accomplish this authoritative and comprehensive history, which starts with "origins" and ends in the twenty-first century. The narrative covers the reservation period beginning in 1862 in greatest detail. Maps, a wealth of black-and-white photographs, and two portfolios of color photographs by Monty Roessel visually enhance the text. A list of recommended readings in twenty-five categories at the back enhances this important work's utility. |
