Lost in the Grand Canyon. Prod. by Mark J. Davis. MDTV Productions, 1999. 58 mins. (PBS Video, 1320 Braddock Place, Alexandria, VA 22314-1698)

The John Wesley Powell expedition down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon in 1869 was steeped in adventure and significance for the history of the American West. Perhaps only the Lewis and Clark expedition (18041806) surpasses the Powell voyage in mythic qualities. Powell's journey through "America's last uncharted territory" captured the imagination of his contemporaries and of historians and outdoor enthusiasts in the time since. Lost in the Grand Canyon celebrates the achievement of Powell's exploration. |
