Twenty-First Century Gateways: Immigrant Incorporation in Suburban America examines the residential patterns of post-1965 immigrants, especially those who arrived in the years after 1980. The majority of these newcomers have settled in the American suburbs rather than creating the central city enclaves once synonymous with immigration. The new suburban magnets, many of which lack a history of previous immigration, are the central focus of this book. Three of the volume's essays discuss the larger questions that the new immigration patterns raise, while the remaining nine chapters examine the impact of recent immigrants on specific metropolitan areas. |
