In this work of modern Indian history, Charles Wilkinson records the important story of Native efforts to establish control over their own lives, land, and resources. There are important, scholarly works written that address the separate themes covered in this work, such as termination and relocation policies, the rise of AIM, fishing rights, court battles, sovereignty issues, and tribal governance. Wilkinson, however, has provided the most thorough and comprehensive work to date that traces the broad range of topics chronologically and with an engaging narrative style. |
