The page presentation framework of the Booker T. Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

The BOOKER T. WASHINGTON Papers My plan: I will assume an other name; get about with all the people; give my business as a waiter and get a dinner job to prove the claim. Dinner men, in the large restaurants and cafes work from ~ ~ to 3 p.m. each day and some work from 3 p.m. to ~~ midnight I will get on the ~ ~ a.m. to ~ p.m. job for that will allow me sufficient time to do my work. I am certain I can do this work in that way for I am not known in Chicago. No one- would have any interest in Jack Cameron a waiter, just doing what he could to move in decent society and keep soul and body together with the aid of a pan. I will observe your instruction and keep my name out of the papers and will, I assure you, get all the information you need. I remain Faithfully yours Melvin Chisum. x Jack Cameron Unless you suggest a different name, which I will be glad to have you do if you like. ALS Con. 32 BTW Papers DLC. From Melvin Jack Chisum New York, N.Y. Etch 28th, 1906 My dear Dr. Washington: Allow me to thank you again and again for the ten dollars which you ordered sent me, it helped some and I am grateful. Enclosed please find advertisement of a colored gentleman who is going to ''get the world right,'' he may have the job. The Telegraph which he quotes is not only ''yellow'' but a paper without either clean clothes or character and most often utterly untruthful. 556
