The page presentation framework of the Booker T. Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

AUGUST . 1904 To William Loeb, Jr. South Weymouth, Mass. August 3, 1909 Personal My dear Mr. Loeb: Several white Republicans of some standing from Louisiana very much desire to have a short interview with the President sometime between the lath and lath of August. ~ do not like to seem to add a single burden to the President at this time, but I think it would be really worth while to spare these men a few minutes if he possibly can. Will you be kind enough to inform me here, and I will communicate with the men referred to. I would not trouble the President with the matter except I have the feeling that these are a high type of men whom it would be worth while for the President to see. Yours very truly, tBooker T. Washington] TLc BTW Papers ATT. To Sumner Alexander Furniss South Weymouth, Mass. August 3, ~ go4 Personal My dear Dr. Furniss: I have your letter of July 30th in which you make inquiry as to where I prefer to stay when in Indianapolis. Ordinarily I very much prefer the accommodations of a hotel, but I have the feeling that if I stay at a hotel that a great many colored people would be constantly calling to see me and that might prove objectionable on the part of the hotel proprietors and might stir up some trouble. I think it just as well to face all these matters in a frank manner. Please let me have your opinion on this point. Please regard this letter as private. Yours very truly, tBooker T.
