The page presentation framework of the Booker T. Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

APRIL 1 904 pointing Col. Lewis at once. The card was given to Mr. Scott, my secretary, who fortunately delayed delivering it until I had arrived. When I saw the card, I took the liberty of holding it up until I saw the President, when I frankly told him what I had done. He smiled. ~ think you will agree that if Col. Lewis had been reappointed, but you had not, the Lily-whites would have concentrated the fight on you, and would have claimed a victory. Col. Lewis knows what has been done, and takes it in good part. I think you should let him know that you are grateful to him for his generosity. There is no fight on him, and he cannot possibly fail of reappointment. Enclosed I return the letters from Mr. Dover which you sent me. If this letter does not reach you too late, I should like to see you here when you come to Washington to see Mr. Dover. I shall probably be here, excepting from the z~ to the 6th, until the lath of April. Please keep me informed as to how the fight goes. Very truly yours, tBooker T.
