The page presentation framework of the Booker T. Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

JULY 1 go3 constituted leaders are disgracing the race. To-day, while the Negro race is passing through the crucial test of its worthiness to be engrafted into the civilized life of the American people; and when God has favored the race with such a modern ''Moses'' as you are; having manfully worked your way up the ladder of fame and now has the ear of the American nation and the civilized world, for that matter; and is at present exerting an incalculable influence in behalf of the poor ignorant and dependent race to which you belong; the Negro who would intentionally oppose or try to reflect or detract one iota of honor from you is an enemy to the race! Any one that will envy or oppose another because he persists in magnifying his work is a crank, pure and simple. The prayers of thousands of loyal supporters, black and white, go out to you in this your trying hour of opposition from the ranks of your own race. Shame! Shame!! With best wishes I remain your humble friend and student. B. T. Harvey ALS Con. :60 BTW Papers DLC. From James H. McMullen Boston, Mass. Duly 3 I, egos] Dear Dr. Washington: I am not yet over the execitement of last evening. But our victory is complete. You will never be troubled in Boston again. The Guardian is ''done for'' and its thick headed Editor will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. White and black are with you now as never before. A leading white citizen whose name I cant just recall but will name later said to me yesterday in the Court House, ''hIr. Washington can get any kind of money he needs to carry on his work from me.'' I regret more than I have words to express the riotous proceedings of those individuals Thursday evening, but the end had to come and let us hope this is the end. The trial will come off next Tuesday and every effort on the part of my church will be made to punish the offenders of decency, law and order. You have won a signal victory and the colored people to a man appreciate your wise leadership and great statesman245
