Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

The BOOKER T. WASHINGTON Papers From Emmett Jay Scott Tuskegee, Ala., July 3~, 19o3] My Dear Mr. Washington: ~ sympathise greatly with you because of the nasty mess last night—that Forbes, Trotter & the rest of that gang sh'd have made the ''muss'' they did. It all only shows their impotent fury that zM(~ooo), people shot come out to hear you— in the face of all their dirty attacks.
