The page presentation framework of the Booker T. Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

The BOOKER T. WASHINGTON Papers very shortly he will present his name to the President unless we can get in some good work very shortly but on the other hand should the President manifest a desire to appoint one of our people I am assured of his support as he fully realizes the situation. Hoping that you will give this matter your most serious consideration and immediate attention, and hoping also that you and Mrs Washington are well I am as ever Very truly Yours William D. Crum HLS Con. :~4 BTW Papers DLC. To James Sullivan CIarkson Tuskegee, Ala Oct 7 egos Scott advises whites attempting to delay Roulhac appointment am sure they will not succeed as President has promised to appoint Rou~hac at lanced I have not wired President for that reason. Parties now urging delay have most shamefully humiliated our people and every negro newspaper is aroused. Am keeping them in line on strength of promise something will be done. Any other course will greatly embarrass me. I am sure you feel with me that human rights and justice are more important than promise of a few uncertain votes. Booker T. Washington TWSr Theodore Roosevelt Papers DLC. ~ Clarkson wrote BTW that about a half-dozen lily-white Republicans from Alabama tried to block the Roulhac appointment, but on President Roosevelt's instructions Clarkson told them of the President's ''displeasure and disapproval over the attempt to form a white man's party in their State.'' When the group threatened to deny Roosevelt the support of the Alabama delegation in 1904, Clarkson replied that he doubted that a delegation ''representing a mongrel or bastard party based on color'' would be seated.
