The page presentation framework of the Booker T. Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

FE ~ R U AR Y 1 8 9 9 I hope you may have a successful time of it in St. Louis and Kansas City, and of course I shall be very glac! to see you again. ~ had a note from Mr. Scott yesterday and he was anxious to know if I was going to attend the Conference and I told him I was not in a position to answer the question at this time. With kind regards, Yours truly T. Thomas Fortune ALS Con. ~54 BTW Papers DLC. ~ Isaac B. Allen was a member of the executive committee of the Colored National League of Boston. From Emmett Jay Scott Tuskegee, Ala., Feb. 3, 1899 Dear Mr. Washington: Our friends at Montgomery fear that Leftwich is bent upon hurting the session of the Tuskegee Negro Conference. You will note that his Conference is called to meet Feb. lath just ~ days before ours. You will note also that he says that it is the purpose to form a district Conference to be composed of the following counties, Autauga, Crenshaw, Butler, Elmore, Lowndes and Montgomery. I do not know whether he has advertised the fact that you are to supply seed or not, but a letter received from Mr. Adamst advises against your influence being given this Conference in any way whatever and also against any seed being sent there through your influence. I have instructed Mr. Jackson who is working in that section this week to very carefully emphasize the fact that the Tuskegee Negro Conference has no relation whatever to this affair of Leftwich's. Yours very truly, E J Scott TLS Con. ~ 6 ~ BOW Papers DLC. ~ Probably Lewis Adams of Tuskegee or J. W. Adams of Montgomery, both trustees of Tuskegee Institute. 25
