MAY 1 899 to part with the master who has had charge of our school there for a number of years. It would in some respects be advantageous if we could choose as his successor, instead of a West Indian, some one from the States, who has been inspired with a sense of the importance and honourable character of manual work, such as you inculcate at Tuskegee. It occurs to me to ask whether you have any man—upon whose character you can absolutely rely whose qualifications as a teacher would satisfy our government inspector, and who would incline to apply for such a post. I doubt whether it would be judicious to appoint a man under ~ I, and he would have to go down almost at once. The School is a mixed one, with about too children.
