I feel free to speak to you on this point, and do not believe it would be discreet, although it would be perfectly appropriate that you pay your respects to the Mayor, and possibly, take tea at his home if he suggests it, but to stop there while here would not meet the approval of our people. Whatever expense you will be put to please let me know and I will arrange for its immediate forwarding to you if you request it. I have just seen Mr. Robinson and he is as delighted as myself to know you are coming and will speak at his church as you proposed some time ago. Drop me a postal when you are to pass through this city again and I will come to the station to see you and have a word with you. From William Miller Beardsheart Ames, Iowa March 5, ~ 896 Dear Sir: Your letter in regard to a colored graduate is duly received. We graduated a colored man a couple of years ago, Mr. G. W. Carver.2 He made such standings in Horticulture, that he has been retained as an assistant in the horticultural department of the experiment station work.
