The BOOKER T. WASHINGTON Papers From Mary Fletcher Mackie Hampton, Va., May 2 1890 Dear Mr. Washington Gen. A. has returned to Hampton. He is better but far from well aunt has to be very careful not to over-work, the least bit knocks him all up. Directly after Commencement he goes North to rest. He is to spend the month of June in the Adirondacks with his friend Dr. Benisons and hopes to be much benefitted by the camp life. Mackie ALS Con. 96 BTW Papers DLC. ~ John Henry Deruson (~84~-~9~4), a Williams College classmate of Samuel Chapman Armstrong, was a Congregational minister. In 1869 he mamed a daughter of the Williams College president Mark Hopkins. He became chaplain of Hampton Institute in 1878 and later served six years as pastor of the Williams College church, retiring in ~ 889. To Margaret James Murray [Tuskegee, Ala.] May 3 Ago Miss M. I. Murray: Your salary for the coming school year beginning Sept i, while acting as Lady Principal, will be ($500) Five Hundred Dollars and board for the sessions' work.
