The page presentation framework of the Booker T. Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

DECEMBER · I 894 her life is just ebbing slowly away. I feel sorry for her but she profits by nothing that is said to her. Mrs. Young is now quite sick and Mr. Chambliss is still confined to bed. ~ fee] afraid for him. Baker went horse back riding with John2 yesterday. He fell from the horse and was badly frightened but not hurt at all. He is perfectly happy at the Training School now. Grace and the J. H. children also go. Dave recites to me two or three times a day. He is getting on so nicely. Mrs. Zanies has been trying to get the water closet near Alabama HaD removed further down the hill she has not succeeded. You know how contrary Mr. J. H. Dr. Washington also, sees that she should have this attended to immediately. People are now criticising Miss Robinson4 for having little Charlie Pitts5 come to her room. I should judge him to be at least sixteen. It is said to day that she has been in bed and that he has been there twice. I think she should be told that no one young man nor boy can be treated in this familiar way but Mr. Logan is a big coward and would never speak to her, and he would say that Mr. Calloway is pressuring if he should do it. And of course it will be left for you. ThanksGiving Day she kissed this boy and Mr. Penney instead of speaking to her said ''I am going to tell Mr. Washington.'' The Emerson moves on. Not all attend but we have a pleasant time now and then we have a little fruit. ~ am having a good full meeting now, if only I had a little more time to give to it. The friend in New Mexico sent you a buggy robe. It is made with the hand and is very warm although it does not look so well. There was no letter with it. The Conference is over. Mr. McMilIain was left here but the people did not want him. They say he is too stupid and slow. Two or three young men have lately entered the Bible Training School one very blight man came in last week. Mr. Harding7 influenced him in coming here. The Prayer meeting on Friday night, for the work students is not in good order. Last week ~ counted more than twenty in the hall. They study their lessons, talk and the whole thing is demoralizing. 487
