The page presentation framework of the Booker T. Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

The BOOKER T. WASHINGTON Papers room had she been penn~tted. It Is a very serious matter to spend the money of other people in the way that we do at this institution. The interests of the Institution are at all times to be placed first. This consideration often makes it my duty to take action that is fax from pleasant when considered from a personal standpoint; but duty to the institution and fidelity to its supporters as well as my own sense of what Is right are considerations which ~ can not disregard. Booker T. Washington HLS Con. fog BTW Papers DLC. From William Sidney Pickman Tuskegee, Ala.] Oct. 3~, 1893 Dear Sir, Not being in the Chapel last night on account of ''drawing,'' I heard that my name was read out ~ times for talking in the dining Room. ~ must say Mr Washington that it is a mistake in some of the Moniters. Since my name was read out last week 4 time ~ have been trying to do better in the way of quietness in the dining room. As to my knowledge ~ know that ~ havn't talked at least once since I heard my name so many times last week. Mr Washington I know if you would look into the matter and examine closely you would yourself think ''how in the world can the same name be here so many times & dont do any better surely they dont mean to stay here or it must be the monitors that Is not doing their duty.'' It seems to me that the monitor just get the same names every time if they cant get any new ones. But that is not right. And another thing is that ~ dont like for my name to get so common in the Chapel simply because they have the power. Mr Washington ~ know they are not doing me justice & I wish you would see them privately & give them a talk & examine it closely. ~ am here for the right thing and not for the wrong. Respectfully, W.
