The page presentation framework of the Booker T. Washington papers is designed to provide researchers worldwide with searchable access to the thousands of pages comprising the fourteen volumes, most of which are out of print. Adapted from the National Academy Press's Open Book framework, this framework allows searching down to the page level, provides sorting of search results chronologically, enables easy navigation across multiple volumes, and allows page-by-page local printing (via PDF) of every page.

The BOOKER T. WASHINGTON Papers and English. He was head of the academic department and teacher of pedagogy from 1893 to 1897. 2 The address given by Lyman Abbott at the dedication of Phelps Hall Bible School. (See Christian Union, 47 [Mar. 25, 1893], 567-69.) To Warren Logan [New York City] Apr. ~ 5 ~ 893 Dear Mr. Logan: Enclosed I send you $50. The Misses Collins will send you some thing today or tomorrow. Your telegram came last night.2 At present I see nothing to do but ''grin and bear it.'' I am working as hard as I can night and day. Relief I am sure wiD come soon from some source. As far as you can you had better get notes extended. This I wish you would say to the faculty ~ am quite convinced that donations from the North in the future are going to be more largely than ever devoted to industrial education. I meet this sentiment on every hand. To hold our own we must put every industry in the best possible condition. I have had a talk with Mr. Morris K. Jesup and from what he says I fee] rather sure that another change is coming in the Slater Fund. He favors strongly reducing the number of schools to be helped to two or three. Hampton he says they are sure of. He has asked me to call to see him Sunday at 5 to confer with him tin] regard to Tuskegee. The Board seems to think well of us at present, but we must go upwards or we can not stand the test. I now -fee] more convinced that ever of the wisdom of relieving just as soon as possible Mr. J. H. Washington from all care except the superintendence and development of the industries. A visit from Dr. Curry may be expected at any time. I have just rec'd a telegram, asking me to go to Boston to speak at two meetings there in the interest of Hampton- for this reason I shall not reach home before Wednesday night. Yours truly Booker T.
